Historic Pitlane of the Targa Florio in Sicily
This former pitlane of the Targo Florio can be found in Termini Imerese which is a place very close to the Sicilian capital Palermo. The exact location on Google maps can be found here.
The Targa Florio pitlane is along a public road and is now the house of a car club. On the opposite side of the road you can find the former grandstands which have no use at the moment.
The Targa Florio was an open road endurance championship which was held for the first time in 1906. The track started out as a 148km long track which you had to complete for one lap in beginning. In the following years the track was shortened twice which lead in the end to a 72km long track which had to be lapped 11 times.
After some serious accidents in 1973 the Targo Florio as international sportscar championship was no long around. The Targo Florio was changed to a national rally event and in this form it is still driven every year.
