Matra – Simca MS640 at Goodwood Festival of Speed
Back in 1969 Matra – Simca built a car that should be able to compete against the legendary Ford GT40s and Porsche 917s. They came up with the Matra MS640 a very progressive and very fast car that was able to reach a top speed of 300 km/h. The cars weight was only 720 kg and the car was equipped with a Matra MS9 V12 2993 cc engine.
Sadly during testing the driver Henri Pescarolo crashed the car but survived the crash. After this terrible accident the 640 project was stopped by Matra – Simca and they raced with the MS630 and 650s for the rest of the year. After the crash the MS640 was totally rebuild and put in the Matra – Simca museum untill they used it to race at Goodwood Festival of Speed.
