Tour in prison of Haarlem ‘de Koepel’
This prison was closed in 2015 after being in use since 1901. The build of this ‘Koepel in Haarlem’ started in 1899 after the design of the dutch architect W.C. Metzelaar. The design he made was copied from the similar prisons his father designed in Breda and Arnhem. At this moment the building is a monument and there is still being decided what the future plan for this building will be.
Inside the prison are 400 cells build in rings on top of each other. After the closing of the prison in 2015/2016 this prison was used to give shelter to refugees from Syrie.
